Taking the Christ out of the Crucifixion

Here’s a weblog entry (that’s becoming increasingly famous) about church pre-schooler curiculums removing the crucifixion because it may be too traumatizing.

My wife used Good Friday to show some pictures to our kids of what happened on that day (from “The Passion” companion book). My daughter was amazed to see the corresponding pictures with the Bible passages and a book she had on the topic. I think it really hit home that this really happened.

My son was astonished that they were hurting Jesus. “But Jesus was good!!! Why did they do that!!!!” he kept saying….which is a pretty profound theological question from a 3.5 year old.

I agree that there is a wrong way to approach this with kids. But to remove it entirely is to basically avoid teaching the Gospel to our children.
