More free secular music: Nine Inch Nails
Posted March 5th, 2008 by MikeLike Radiohead before them, Nine Inch Nails just released an album under very non-traditional circumstances.
First, they released a large part of it for free download. Not only free, but they released it via the much hated Bittorrent protocol.
Not only did they use the much hated Bittorrent protocol, but they used even more hated Pirate Bay torrent site. As the name implies, the pirate bay is one of the main places on the internet to go if you want to hotwire an artist’s Escalade and drive away with a parrot on your shoulder.
Along with the free downloads, they sold several versions of the album with various value-added extras. How is this working out for them?
Well, it would appear that they’ve grossed at least $750,000 from the special editions alone. So they’ve all but pirated their own work, and they’re supporting themselves pretty well.
And if you’re not familiar with the group, one of their more famous choruses starts with “I want to f* you like an animal”.
So you can get that for free. Just don’t “steal” Christian music.
When is a megastar Christian musician going to get with the program and release music this way? Isn’t the Gospel far more important?
