Communists in Mexico?
Posted September 14th, 2007 by MikeApparently the “Popular Revolutionary Army” is blowing stuff up in Mexico.
This group is a Marxist Leftist group. Can you imagine the extent of the response if Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries were becoming powerful in a country that bordered the U.S. say, 20 years ago? Couple that with a Socialist revolution by a charismatic leader in Venezuela…who may actually be funding the Mexican leftists….yep. 20 years ago this would be WWIII.
However, now it’s terrorism that is the enemy, and the U.S. is pouring trillions into that effort. I wonder what problems are being created now?
Back in the late 70′s and early 80′s, the enemy was communism. The U.S. poured billions into turning Afghanistan into “the Soviet Union’s Vietnam”. A huge chunk of that money built the ideological infrastructure that created the Taliban. We all know how that worked out. What are we creating now that will look completely stupid in 20 years?
Meanwhile, the Dollar is losing it’s luster. The federal debt just surpassed 9 trillion dollars. The price of oil just hit $80/barrel (400% increase in the last 7 years). And full-out commies are bombing stuff in a shared-border country with little or no access control. I don’t mean to sound doom-and-gloom, but are our 401k statements and trips to Target really giving us the big picture here?
It seems clear that we have punted “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” in favor of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Then when we couldn’t move the ball on our own, we tried for 3 points on the “happiness” part.
The famous words of Otis in The Last Starfighter: “Things change. Always do.” We have to be watching the direction of the change. As Christians, we must watch the direction of change in the light of scripture. I’m very concerned that the words of the Old Testament prophets will eventually cry out “well how did that work out for ya?” [paraphrased].
