From Iraq

A couple excellent posts from Michael Yon, the weblog-reader-funded reporter from Iraq. He’s reporting from an abandoned Christian college in the middle of an Iraqi town. Part one is here… Part two is here…. I highly recommend his site, and I’ve paypal’d him a few bucks of support.

National Debt

Everytime I see a post like this one on the U.S. national debt, I just have to shake my head. And then I have to write a post about the real reason for the national debt, which I try to do at least once a year. So here goes. Until 1974, the president controlled the [...]

CD Project

If you haven’t picked up a copy of the latest CD yet, then you’re missing out on an excellent opportunity to replenish my daughter’s raided college fund. And we think the music is pretty good too. Our friends in the Netherlands have posted a review, and if people in the Netherlands like it, you know [...]

On keeping a sword

So…who ‘took up the sword’ in these scenarios? From the article: What would have happened if these people waited for the police? In three cases the shooters were apprehended before the police arrived because of armed civilians. From Scripture: Luke 22:35 And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and [...]

The thing about family life

is that you never know where it will take you. For instance, how else would I have ended up in a dark room shining flashlights on a stuffed rabbit as it danced to Weird Al’s “this song is just 6 words long”?

Virginia Tech: Old media vs. new

It’s tragically interesting to see how the various forms of media are lining up to cover the Virginia Tech tragedy. The old, busted media seized on the gunman’s messages. Meanwhile, on the new media you can see the victims, and see a little of who they were and what they meant to people. For example, [...]

Oprah and the gospel

Watch this clip of Oprah. Yes it’s the same ol’ new age “all paths lead to god” and “darkness and the light” stuff. However, this is worth a look because it uses the classic argument against Christianity using the fallacy of the “god of the linear timeline”. It goes a’something like dis: “There couldn’t possibly [...]

Another post on teams

Here is and interesting blog post by someone at Google who is working with the recently acquired Youtube group. As YouTube grew incredibly quickly they were able to sound the bell and keep bringing on more former colleagues. All folks who were vetted, trusted by one another, etc. Imagine the time, hiring risk and integration [...]

My only analysis of Virginia Tech

is that it makes me appreciate who God is and how he sees each and every one of us.

I like this Judge

I like this guy. One of my ‘gigs’ in life is/has been network security. Network security guys are usually seen as evil overlords of arbitrary rules who like to throw fertilizer in your Wheaties just because they can. They are routinely feared, or absolutely ignored depending on the posture of the company. I’ll never forget [...]

Dabbawala’s

Check out Dabbawalla’s. Very interesting read. A largely uneducated workforce. No computers. Huge volumes of ‘stuff’ to do. Yet they maintain excellent accuracy, and grow their business like crazy. Here’s a good interview that’s referenced from the Wikipedia article. We can learn much from the Dabbawala business. Plus it’s just fun to say.

News tidbits

You remember those folks who said they’d found the tomb of Jesus and family? Not so fast…. And doesn’t this sound like a great Alanis song? It’s like micro-organismsssss in you Listerine. The bad breath geeeeerms, that you just couldn’t clean. Isn’t it ironic? A little….too….Ironic?

On Imus

Certainly, what Imus said was reprehensible. If not for the racial undertones, then just for the downright mean-spritedness of it. But why don’t Rev’s Jackson and Sharpton have a problem when the same stuff comes out of…say…the Hip-Hop industry? At any given time, at least 60% of the Hip-Hop top 100 on iTunes has an [...]

What if nobody listened?

The same small voice that brought us to life Calls our name like a song in the light A tune that plays from the earliest time Leads us to where we can find… You absolutely have to read this article…. So many things you can say. One of the most compelling concepts I’ve ever read. [...]

Easter Summary

I’m still firmly ensconced in the Old Testament in my yearly read through the Bible. It’s a pretty brutal story. And this brutality is one thing that Athiests and critics in general use to criticise Christianity and religion. There is an article in todays dead tree version of Newsweek (and apparently their online version) where [...]

Atlanta: Centennial Olympic Park

Seems like any time my wife and I get out of town without kids, something tragic happens shortly after. Last year, we were in Sedona one week before all the forest fires broke out. This year, we stayed at the Omni/CNN Center and one week later there is a tragic shooting. That’s a downer. But, [...]
